TRS - Teacher Retirement Systems

You can access your membership statements online through your TRS account. The statement provides valuable account information such as an account balance, the lump sum value of an account, estimated benefit projections, as well as beneficiary and service credit information. Please keep in mind that the information provided on the site is just an estimate. You will have to contact TRS for a more detailed benefit estimate. Here is how to view/download a statement:

1. Go to www.trsga.com
2. My TRS login link on the navigation bar above.
3. Active Member/Retiree Login
4. Either login to your existing account or sign up for an account.
5. Click the Download My Annual Member Statement link on the right.
6. Click the PDF link.

Members within two years of retirement can call or go online to make an appointment to discuss their retirement with a retirement counselor. You can also view videos online that tell you how to update your beneficiaries, advise about retirement, using your online TRS account, and things you need to know about your benefits if you are new to TRS. You can find those videos and podcasts at www.trsga.com/multimedia/.

It's important to remember that you MUST begin the process for retirement online. We cannot handle the process for you. Also, you will need to get information about your insurance through SHBP. We cannot answer questions about costs or eligibility at the BOE.

Qualifying Events

Making Changes Due to Qualifying Events

Life changes quickly for all of us and we need to make sure we have all of our important information up to date as much as possible.  Normally we cannot make changes to our health and supplemental insurance until Open Enrollment each year but there are certain events that will allow you to make changes during the year.

Qualifying events may include:

  1. Marriage/Divorce/Death
  2. Birth or Adoption
  3. Gain or loss of coverage
  4. Change in Tobacco status
  5. Being Newly hired

You have 31 days from your hire date or qualifying event date to go online or call to enroll in coverage.

Considerations for Qualifying Event

SHBP
You will need to call  SHBP (1-800-610-1863) to make any changes or log on to their website:  mySHBPga.adp.com

If you are a new hire and need to enroll in coverage, you will click on “Register Here” and enter the SHBP Registration Code:  SHBP-GA.  You will then follow the steps to create your user name and password.

GA Breeze
Call 1-877-342-7339 to update any coverage for vision, dental, life insurance, short term disability, long term disability, legal, etc. when you have a qualifying event.  In the event of a death, you will need to call 1-800-821-6400.

TRS
Check your TRS beneficiary and make sure it is up-to-date.  As required by Georgia law, TRS must pay remaining benefits at  the time of death based on the latest designation in your TRS file.  Wills, marriage licenses, divorce decrees, life insurance policies or other documents cannot be used to determine your beneficiary so make sure that your TRS designations are correct.
